User can earn points and compete with others in leaderboards

Description

Points are the core unit of gamification. Fixed points can be issued for getting a question correct, and an alternative decreasing scale of points can also be used. Fixed points earn the user a fixed number of points for a correct answer, with no points issued for incorrect answers. Decreasing points issues a number of points that is dependent on how quickly the user answers. If the user answers immediately they can in principle earn the maximum number of points. If they get the question wrong they will get no points at all.

Studio Setup

Enable Gamification

To use the Gamification you need to Enable Gamification in Event Settings. In Event Settings you can add total number of points available for a question for the whole event (for example 10) in Total Questions.

To add the Points to the Element you need to open Settings tab in the element. Add max number of points awarded to Points field. Select Points scoring mode.

There are two types of points scoring mode:

• On vote - user sees the correct answer and gets points immediately after their answer

• On close - user sees the correct answer and gets points after question ends

Only On Close is secure, because the answer is hidden from the client application until incoming answers are no longer being accepted. On vote is NOT a secure method because the correct answer is sent to the client application and can be hacked.
